Foci Glass was started in 1990 by brothers Michael Boyd and Scott Boyd. We emphasize and explore color in our work, manipulating the color in a very immediate way much as a painter might. Utilizing a number of color overlay techniques to build up many layers of different colors on the unfinished piece, we then tool by hand this carefully set up color system to create a design with the color. This is the part of the process that takes the most time and concentration, as this is what will bring a successful resolution to the piece. The aesthetic of beauty, seen in both the palette and in the designs of the color work, shows also in the skillfully blown forms. We keep our shapes elegant and uncomplicated to better serve as a canvas for our main focus -- the interplay between color and design. Each vase is started, worked, and finished hot and are all blown freehand - without the use of molds.
