This panoramic photograph of Madrid was taken by James Blakeway.It features one of the most famous and popular squares of Madrid, the Plaza de Cibeles. In the center of the square is the statue of the Goddess Cybele. On the right is Banco de Espana, completed in 1891 in a style inspired by Italian and French architecture. Centered in the photograph is the Palacio de Comunicaciones, one of the most beautiful buildings in Madrid. To the left of the Palacio de Comunicaciones is the Puerta de Alcala or Alcala Gate, which is the most famous and representative monument in the city. The Alcala Gate was formerly an entrance to the walled city. |
